Top 5 First Dance Wedding Songs

Top 5 first dance wedding songs? “How can you do that? It’s tooo subjective!” I hear you cry.

Well of course it is but as a former professional singer and now even more professional wedding photographer, I think I’ve earned my two penneth to at least say what I think would make a pleasant change from ‘At Last’ by Etta James or…ahem…anything by Celine Dion. It is always refreshing to hear first dance songs that show thought, veer away from the mainstream and that actually/hopefully/probably mean something to the newlyweds looking adoringly in to each others eyes on the dance floor.

Worlds and oysters spring to mind when it comes to sitting down and picking one song above all songs to dance your way in to married life so why not take a little time and make it a special one.

In no particular order of favourite, here’s my top 5…

1. Train – Marry Me

2. Van Morrison – Tupelo Honey (Great live version…)

3. Band of Horses – No One’s Gonna Love You

4. Ray La Montagne – You Are The Best Thing

5. Journey – Faithfully

  • Claire - OOoh…. Ian, you had me until we got to Journey there. Otherwise, a fantastic collection!
As you say, it’s subjective hehe.
I’d go with Bruce Springsteen’s Thunder Road, or Dave Matthews Band’s Crush.
You forgot to mention Foo Fighters up there in the Celine Dion paragraph by the way. And Snow Patrol…

    • Ian Baker - I fear we could be here a while on this one, Claire! Being an old rocker, Journey were my favourite band and Steve Perry’s voice, well…go on, give him a listen and you may be pleasantly surprised!
Loving the Crush recommendation though. Top 6?ReplyCancel

  • Photographers SEO Academy - A very eclectic choice of songs, well done Ian!ReplyCancel
