Burford Family Portrait Photographer: Big parties are great fun so when I got a call asking me to capture family and friends at a joint 30th and 40th birthday party in beautiful Burford in Oxfordshire, I was thrilled. Molly had organised a photographer (me!) for her friends, Portia and Crispin, and wanted me to simply record the events of the afternoon and evening – nothing too posed (apart from a few family shots), lots of smiles, children playing, grown ups relaxing, etc, etc. The guys had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to ensure everyone was in for a great day: bouncy castles, face painting, sumo wrestling, rodeo rides…and that was just for the big people!
I arrived early to capture a few detail shots as these are always nice for family albums and give the day a sense of context. Portia and Crispin have a wonderful house with gorgeous surroundings which I knew would provide the perfect backdrop for when guests started to appear and the shutter started clicking.
Life is full of surprises and none more so than when some great friends of mine from London – Adam, Joe and their delightful children – magically appeared at the party: it turns out that Adam and Crispin go back about 30 years! And to top things off, I’m going to Adam and Joe’s joint birthday party (this time as a guest) this weekend! What a small world…
Family parties that span the generations are always a joy to photograph and never really feel like work. I love capturing the innocence and concentration on young children’s faces as they play as well as the adoring glances of their parents and grandparents as they look on, proudly. At times like this, it’s sometimes nice to put together some of the best shots in a slideshow to capture the essence of the occasion so have a look here to give you a flavour…
So here is a selection of pictures from this lovely day. I do hope you like them.
