Gloucestershire Family Portrait Photography: I’d been called by Mariam a couple of weeks ago asking if I was free to photograph a special family get together: it was her father’s 70th birthday and grandchildren through to grand parents would be staying at a place called Ladlecome, not far from Cranham in Gloucestershire. A quick Google and it was immediately apparent that Ladlecome was quite special – a mix of traditional Cotswold stone (old house), beautiful, glass fronted, modern architecture (new space) and several acres of gorgeous countryside with a lake to boot. Just the sort of thing I love doing.
Roll on two weeks and here we are. I arrived to find several tired parents having breakfast while the young ran around around and played. As an experienced parent (three young ones to keep me on my toes) I was more than happy to let things happen naturally, children fed and happy, no rush.
Miraculously, everyone was up and ready to go within 20 minutes or so and I’d already put the long lens on for shots of the children in their own little worlds, playing. We spent half an hour or so watching Granddad become a bus and get climbed all over by his grandchildren (I’m not sure who enjoyed this more!) before we headed outside for a few formal, orchestrated pictures. We were so lucky with the weather – gorgeous, amber rays and blue sky. Perfect.
I’d had a chat with everyone at the start to explain the nature of the shoot i.e. just be yourselves and I’ll work around you, and things were going perfectly as a result with plenty of opportunities for capturing those candid, priceless, family moments. This type of shoot is always dependant on everyone feeling relaxed and doing their own thing and I’m pleased to say Mariam and all of her her family were dab hands and performed brilliantly!
I loved this shoot. A delightful, charming family and a perfect location. Here is a selection of shots taken during our session. I hope you enjoy looking…
